SCIENCE
USE CASES
PROACTIVE BREASTFEEDING. DRIVEN BY DATA.
REAL WORLD USE CASE 1
BREAST IMBALANCE
System alerts breast imbalance, where one breast is delayed reflecting less effective breastfeeding on that side. System Insights advised to introduce more or more even breast stimulations by pumping. Successful breast stimulation until resolving breast differences and closing the gaps.
REAL WORLD USE CASE 2
RESTRICTED MILK FLOW
In good effective breastfeeding establishment dynamics, System alerts early signs of restricted milk flow in one breast, in-line with mother's report of breast pain and signs associated with early breast inflammation. Condition fully self-managed efficiently, at home. Episode resolution detected in scans
REAL WORLD USE CASE 3
EARLY SIGNS OF DELAY
System identifies early and persistent breastfeeding establishment delay, indicative of inefficient breastfeeding in line with slow baby's weight gain.
REAL WORLD USE CASE 4
GOOD BREASTFEEDING
Positive reinforcement for efficient breastfeeding establishment dynamics, from the early days and along the extended period. In line with good weight gain throughout.
SYSTEM LIMITATIONS
SYSTEM CANNOT ASSURE ADEQUATE MILK SUPPLY/INTAKE
The milk scanning feature in the MyLee App is not able identify all cases of low milk supply, or insufficient milk transfer. In certain cases, including but not limited to certain medical conditions such as breast hypoplasia, or insufficient glandular tissue, the milk maturation rate may be aligned or advanced compared to expected rates, but not in line with actual milk volumes produced.
Additionally, the entire dynamic of a certain milk maturation process, followed early, is more informative than any later period scanning results, since the early history of each breastfeeding has an impact on secretory tissue development and function.
While not all forms of low milk supply concerns can be identified by milk scanning alone, whenever the system identifies a consistent 'Delay' or 'inefficiency' it is always worth further investigation of a reason for the delay and introduce corrective measures accordingly, as early as possible, with the aid of a lactation professional.
The MyLee does allow for identification of additional signs for milk supply concerns, by enhancing the scanning feature with the full app features on My Day, including diaper count, weight gain tracking, LATCH and confidence scores and symptom tracking, and following associated insights on My Insights screen.
